Sarangi in case

This sarangi is from Delhi. The sarangi was played for several years by a student of Pandit Ram Narayan. It was reskinned, refinished and restrung.

Some Details

I am not a sarangi player (yet) and therefore I will stick to the obvious details and update this review at a later point, e.g. after my first class (feb 2, 2007).

1 heavy wound upper level tarab (sympathetic string)

11 upper level tarabs of equal length

24 lower level sympathetic strings of varying length

Horse hair, very much like a violin bow with a tension knob

Case

Heavy duty fiberglass case perfectly fitted to the sarangi.

Base and langot: View of the base and the langot.  Skin is quite white.  I imagine that jawari animal is some kind of cow judging from the udder.  Strings are looped like taanpuras.Base and langot:
